Kirtan meditation is an ancient yogic practice of the path of devotion for the expression of love and compassion.
It is an increadably fun & joyful meditation using singing, clapping and done to open the heart centre by activate and channel energy from the body, mind and heart.
This meditation practice usually uses mantras, spiritual names and instruments in a musical and joyful way to direct the energy into the hear centre transforming it into love and compassion.
You have to dance in an energetic mood, all your life energy has to be flowing, laughing, singing celebrating life.
This practice leads you to a state of peace & joy that heals and harmonises on the deepest level, its a simple and effective practice towards self transformation by transforming negative feelings into positive ones.
This is a very simple & extremely fun meditation but that doest make it any less of a meditation.
In meditation we are trying to turn inward to become interested in the inside world, to become less caught up in the outside world.
In fact Osho points out active meditations are much better suited to modern life than traditional meditations and much more effective. Traditional meditations were designed for a simpler time, when our worlds were less hectic, but in modern times and with a lot of people active meditations are much more effective. I personally prefer to mix the 2.
So all your trying to achieve in meditation is to first turn inward and become interested in the internal self, active meditations allow us to create a massive amount of energy in the system which when we stop we can observe, this is all we are attempting to achieve to watch, through watching regularly with effort we develop a one pointed mind.
So this is the goal, to be joyful involved and enjoy the sensations and the stop and watch with effort.
True Meditation is the final step to watch with no effort, this comes in the final phase of the meditation but it is a skill we develop. First we develop concentration with effort, then concentration without effort comes.
There are 4 stages:
1st stage: Dance, sing and clap for 20 minutes.
SO close your eyes, sing dance and clap with all your energy in an ecstatic way. Feel the music dance with total abandonment, loose yourself.
be totally involved by singing and moving.
Stage 2: Stop abruptly stand still & observe – 5 mins
In this stage, just observe all the sensations of the body, breath, feelings and allow all this energy to flow into your heart.
Stage 3 Stillness practice – 15 minutes, starting in child pose and coming upto sitting when instructed. The aim here is to observe the belly now in child pose and when sitting up observing the change in the body sensations as you rise.
Stage 4 : let go in shivasana
